Its funny that you said "he had to at least cracked some ribs" in the jumping to the tree scene, because stallone actually cracked a rib and that "oh jesus" is 100% real and unscripted, he was in a lot of pain... also in the beginning of the movie when he elbows a cop to the face, he actually got too excited and broke his nose, lol, the early 80s was a crazy time to be an action movie star...

I recently rewatched this because someone made the argument that it was a Thanksgiving movie. It totally is BTW. But I forgot how cussing amazing this movie is! The straightforward, matter-of-factness of the acting is a signature of Wes Anderson's directing style. He's one of the most stylistically distinct directors. A really cool detail is that even though all the animals portray this civility, they still hiss like wild animals and they still eat with 0 table manners. Also, they talk about Ash being *waves hands* "different." Ash is the only one at the end eating grape juice, not apple juice.

This film was brilliant in the way that it integrated reality, especially having the actual HBO commentators present . . . Mike Tyson's cameo . . and Joe Cortez, one of the great "real" boxing refs. If Mason Dixon seemed "underwhelming," don't be fooled: he was played by Antonio Tarver, an actual world champion, and one of the best fighters of the early 21st century. Your reaction was a delight! Now, on to "Creed!"

Far be it from me to judge people, but everytime someone says they home school I can't help but feel sorry for the kids. Not only because of the obvious reason, home schoolers seemingly having a tendency to be nutters, but also for the reason that home schooling is illegal here: taking a lot of potential interaction and socialisation with other kids away from kids is problematic in the best of cases and abuse in the worst.

Damn, the choppy recording just made me go through all the obvious performance settings on my PC. There are some movies that just somehow speak to men on a basic level. This is one of them, Fight Club is another. I think Chef is also an example, but that might be more universal.

In the novel, Teasle is proven to have been in the Korean War, as he is said to have served at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. The novel explains that Teasle hates Vietnam veterans for upstaging the sacrifices the forgotten Korean War veterans like himself made, and for how Vietnam veterans are usually unemployed and scruffy. The film never states Teasle's backstory explicitly, but it strongly hints at it by showing Korean war medals in Teasle's office, so you can argue that a similar backstory applies to Teasle in the film. There was a myth that the actor who portrayed Teasle was an actual Korean War veteran. However, Brian Dennehy was born in July 1938; with the Korean War starting in 1950, making Dennehy only 12 when it started. Dennehy enlisted in the USMC from 1958 to 1963. In multiple interviews he described being wounded in combat & repeatedly claimed he served in Vietnam. In 1999 he apologised for misrepresenting his military record, stating “I lied about serving in Vietnam & I am sorry. I didn’t mean to take it away from the actions & sacrifices of the ones who really did serve there….i did steal valour. That was very wrong of me. There was no real excuse for that”. Possibly one the darkest moments of the Vietnam War, was the My Lai Massacre. In March 1968, between 347 and 504 unarmed people were killed by U.S. Army soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment and Company B, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 11th Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division. Victims included men, women, children, and infants. Some of the women were gang-raped and their bodies mutilated, and some soldiers mutilated and raped children who were as young as 12. Twenty-six soldiers were charged with criminal offenses, but only Lieutenant William Calley Jr., a platoon leader in C Company, was convicted. Found guilty of murdering 22 villagers, he was originally given a life sentence, but served three-and-a-half years under house arrest after President Richard Nixon commuted his sentence. I can highly recommend the Ken Burns documentary The Vietnam War. It features archive footage & also interviews with veterans from the US, as well as Vietnamese veterans & civilians. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, scored the series, providing both original music and a compilation soundtrack of popular songs.

In the end of the book Rambo, John Rambo gave his speach to Troutman about the Vietnam War Troutman put his arms around Rambo and then apologized for what had happened to Rambo because of what was expected by the Army, then shot him in the head. Stallone changed the end of the movie from the book so as not to suggest Vietnam Vets should be dealt with extreme measures. When this movie was made the Vietman war was only 7 years behind the calendar and there were still protestor from the war that would chastise veterans. After this movie there was an outpouring of support for Veterans. One of the biggest differences of PTSD from WW2 and Korean war vets compared to Vietman vets was the time from the battlefield to the streets. After WW2 and Korea the soldiers were kept in-country for 6 months and then returned to the States by way of ships. They had time to work out the psycological trauma and what they had done and had done to them. My Grandfather who was involved with clearing obstacles during D-day didn't get home until April of 1946. My Uncle who served in a combat unit in Vietman was on the battlefield on day 335 of his deployment, was given a transport plane home on Day 336, and was walking on the streets day 337. He became a recluse from what he saw when he got home. He spent years with a psycologist to work out his mental issues caused by what had happened to him. God Bless the American Soldiers who went through much the same.

In the book this was based on, Teasle's hatred of Rambo is much deeper due to Teasle being a Korean War veteran because he is angry that he and other Korean vets were basically forgotten by the American public and he puts the blame on Vietnam veterans as a way to direct his anger. I personally would've much rather seen that thayn Teasle just being a brain dead moron whose ego is bigger than his stomach because society failed the veterans of both wars when they returned and to see that failure turn two men who are in the same boat into enemies would've made for good storytelling

He was told that Rambo was a military trained killing machine. That his only job on the battlefield was TO KILL, PERIOD and he still thought he could take him. My grandfather used to say that there is no cure for stupidity nor is there any way for an arrogant fool to get past their wounded pride.
